This study attempts to track the Hasten Poe of Pittsboro, Chatham County, NC, making a case that he is the son mentioned in the estate papers of William Poe who died intestate in 1799.

Some evidence indicates that Hasten Poe married Elizabeth “Betsy” Paine but that she died within a few years, leaving issue.

Hasten married Ann W. Stedman.

The close connection between these families is evidenced in records such as this. We see Jacob Poe (the heir of William Poe d. 1799) alongside Reuben Poe, of the Stephen Poe (d.1824) family.  They would be related this way (could be either Hasten in the record)

Simon Poe SR (d.1793) > Simon Poe JR (d. 1773) > Stephen Poe (d. 1824) > Hasten Poe,

Simon Poe SR (d.1793) > Simon Poe JR (d. 1773) > Stephen Poe (d. 1824) > Reuben Poe (Elizabeth Foushee)> Elisha Poe

Simon Poe SR (d.1793) > Stephen Poe (d.1773) > William Poe (d.1799) > Hasten Poe, Jacob Poe
