Information from descendant of Peter Hart and Hannah Poe.

Peter Hart Jr (c 1788 Montgomery Co, VA?

Son of Peter Hart SR (b.c 1740 in Montgomery County, VA). He was Revolutionary War Patriot. Wife Dority “Dolly” possibly Kantor or Sizemore

Lived on New River near Brush Creek. Area became Wythe County, VA.

Married Hannah (Susannah) Poe (born c 1784 possibly Chatham Co, NC)

17 May 1800 Jefferson, Ashe County, NC

Possible daughter of William Poe

Peter and Hannah’s second son was MATHIAS HART (b. 1804) named after Hannah's brother Mathias.

Peter Hart grew up on the New River close of where Brush Creek enters that river. Peter Hart Sr had 150 ac surveyed there in 1783. The area where the family lived remained in Montgomery Co. VA until 1789 when Wythe was formed from Montgomery.. Three years later Grayson was formed from Wythe and the Hart family land was included in the new co. where it remains today. The land is located where near the boundary with NC line. Ashe co where Peter Hart is found on the 1800 census adjoins Grayson CO to the south just across the state line.

1805 Peter Hart  purchased 400 ac on Scott’s Branch of Prathers creek from Owen Sizemore of Hawkins Co, Tn.

Peter Hart’s cousin, James Hart Jr,  was married to Cather "Dollly" Sizemore. She was a niece of this Owen Sizemore.

Ashe County, North Carolina - 1815 Tax List

Ashe County, North Carolina was formed in 1799 from Wilkes County. From 1799 until 1859, Ashe County included the most of the land now included in Alleghany and Watauga Counties, and part of what is now Avery County, North Carolina. In 1815, Ashe County was bounded by Carter County, Tennessee on the west, Grayson County, Virginia on the north, by Surry and Wilkes Counties on the east and Burke County, North Carolina on the South.

This list was abstracted and totals were combined for brevity for individuals with multiple tracts of land. I abstracted this document years ago and omitted portions that I wish I hadn't now. Don't take it as absolutely accurate.

Captain Sutherland's District

Five categories are given: Name, number of acres of land, valuation in dollars, polls, and local situtation or name of neighbors. I added the number of tracts of land in the consolidation process.
